Interpreting mereotopological connection

نویسندگان

چکیده

This paper examines ten possible topological interpretations of connection and for each interpretation, identifies sufficient conditions under which a significant class spaces provides models General Extensional Mereotopology with Closure Conditions (GEMTC) in some key mereotopological ideas align their analogues. In particular, there is an interpretation the non-empty sets any symmetric topology are model GEMTC alignment between definitions (self-)connection, open closed entities, interior, exterior, closure, boundary.

Mereotopological Connection

The paper outlines a model-theoretic framework for investigating and comparing a variety of mereotopological theories. In the first part we consider different ways of characterizing a mereotopology with respect to (i) the intended interpretation of the connection primitive, and (ii) the composition of the admissible domains of quantification (e.g., whether or not they include boundary elements)...

Modal logics for mereotopological relations

We present a complete axiomatization of a logic denoted by MTML (Mereo-Topological Modal Logic) based on the following set of mereotopological relations: part-of, overlap, underlap, contact, dual contact and interior part-of. We prove completeness theorems for MTML with respect to several classes of models including the standard topological models over the set of regular-closed subsets of arbit...

Algebraization and representation of mereotopological structures

Boolean contact algebras are the abstract counterpart of region–based theories of space, which date back to the early 1920s. In this paper, we survey the development of these algebras and relevant construction and representation theorems.

Describing spatial transitions using mereotopological relations over histories ∗

Muller (1998) develops a language of motion and shape change in terms of topological relations and temporal order relations between regions of space-time (histories). He uses this language to state and prove the transition rules developed in (Randell, Cui, and Cohn, 1992) that constrain the changes in spatial relations possible for objects whose shape changes continuously. Unfortunately, Muller...

Eclipse in Occlusion A perspectival mereotopological representation of celestial eclipses

This paper presents a formalisation and exploration of the concept of eclipse from the perspective of qualitative spatial reasoning. Building upon theories of spatial connectivity, occlusion and shadows, we show that eclipses can be described and reasoned about using mereotopological relations, and that these formalisms can be used to disprove some commonsense misconceptions about the nature of...
